About Bienal

The Biennial is an art event we organize every two years to give an opportunity to three million students in Istanbul, as well as other children from all over the world, to take part in contemporary art. Using different materials, techniques and disciplines, they can present their original works of art to audiences on a quality platform. The Biennial introduces a way of expression by different places and cultures, through the eyes and from the perception of children, by creating an environment of sharing based on multiculturalism on a global scale.

The Biennial includes plastic art disciplines such as painting, sculpture, photography, film, video art, updated applications and arrangements of new media productions; as well as artist presentations, performances, video presentations, workshops, panels, interviews, author meet-and-greets.

Furthermore, it aspires to improve the quality of arts education through teacher training, workshops, interviews and other events. It also contributes to creating a common language, fostering young artists and prominent players in the culture industry, and to developing culture and arts producers and followers in the long term, by establishing cross-cultural interactions.

The “Istanbul Children and Youth Art Biennial” was a project supported by the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency as part of its sustainable projects in 2010. It is also the only ongoing project of the agency.
